Larry Parker, my high school swim coach, who said, "Throughout a person’s life he must accept some responsibilities and hardships so that he may obtain personal goals.  To obtain these goals he must be able to discipline himself and be willing to accept discipline.  Discipline is the process of enduring the undesirable in order to achieve that which is desired."

Earl Hoock, my ninth grade geometry teacher, who once told the class,  "As long as you have to be told what to do and when to do it, you will never be a leader."

Ed Dubinsky, one of my mathematics professors at Purdue, who said,"In order for a student to learn mathematics, the teacher has to sometimes get out of the way."

Little-known facts:

I was an extra in the movie Hoosiers (1986, dir. David Anspaugh).
