Welcome to Inquiry Science.  Inquiry Science is a combination of Earth Science and Physical science.  This class is very important and will benefit you the rest of your life.  This class stresses the scientific method and problem solving skills in the field of science.
Here is a general outline of the subject areas we will study this year:

I.    SCIENCE SAFETY IN THE CLASSROOM
The Inquiry Process

II.    Astronomy
A)    Earth-Moon system
B)    Solar System
C)    Stars and Galaxies
D)    Exploring Space

III.    Physical Science
A)    Forces
B)    Laws of Motion

IV.    Meteorology
A)    The atmosphere
B)    Weather
C)    Climate

Grading:
100-90% = A Range
89-80%   = B Range
79-70%   = C Range
69-60%   = D Range
59% and below = Not passing

Points will be distributed in four general areas.  These areas are daily assignments, tests, labs, and quizzes.  If excessive disruptiveness or absenteeism is a problem for any student, it may be reflected in his/her grade.
There will usually be a test at the end of each chapter we cover worth 100pts.  At the end of the first semester and at the end of the year, there will be cumulative finals.  These will cover all of the material tested up to that point.  On some tests, a crib sheet will be allowed.  This will be discussed in more detail when the first test date approaches.
Homework consists of current events, section and chapter reviews, reading, worksheets, labs, and other assigned work.  I am looking for complete homework assignments, which reflect your understanding of the topic.
Late Work…refer to team D policy.
Throughout the year, you will be expected to compile an Earth Science Binder, which includes all of your earth science homework, class notes, tests, labs, and other work.  You will need a three-ring binder for this.  The main purpose for the binder is to help you organize your work in order to prepare for tests and to show your parent/guardian.  These will be checked from time to time for grading points.

Materials are a 3-ring binder, graph paper, pen and/or pencil, calculator, notebook, and folder.

Please see me if you have work that needs to be made up.  It will be THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to ask the teacher for any late work, which needs to be made up.

If returned on due date…this is your first assignment of the year, and is worth 25 points!!!

My child and I have read and understand Mr. McKenzie’s Inquiry Science grading policies and procedures.  I also understand that my child will need to have a three-ring binder for class.
