LAKOTA LANGUAGE AND CULTURE
This is a full year course that prepares all students to communicate effectively with a native speaker of the Lakota Language. This class will focus on a variety of topics and themes including:

~Lakota, Ojibwe, and Dakota history and culture
~Alphabet and numbers
~Colors, animals, foods, body parts,days, months, and weather
~Household terms
~Places, directions, and locations
~Singular, plural, transitive, intransitive, cardinal and ordinal words
~Verbs and nouns
~Greetings, questions, expressions, and phrases

The students will learn about and study these themes through a variety of learning styles and methods including:

~Dialogues and skits
~Writing
~Partner and group Work
~Class Readings
~Class Discussions
~Guest Speakers
~Field Trip Opportunities

Through this course the student will be able to:
~speak, listen, read, and write in Lakota
~develop insight into the Lakota Language and Culture
~develop insight into his/her own language and culture
~gain direct access to information in the Lakota Language
