Lesson Plan for Sept 22 to 26

Monday 9/22    Misleading Graphs and Statistics

Objective:  Students will recognize misleading graphs.  Students will recognize misleading statistics.
Standard:  
Vocabulary:  random sample
Skills questions:
How do you recognize a misleading bar graph?
    How do you recognize a misleading line graph?
    How do you recognize a misleading circle graph?
    How do you recognize misleading statistics?
Homework:  10-4 Practice B worksheet

Tuesday 9/23    Section quiz
There will be a quiz over the first half of chapter 10.  Students will need to show me the following skills:
    How to read bar, double-bar, line, double-line, and circle graphs.
    How to find the mean, mode, and median of a data set.
How to find the five-number summary and draw the box-and-whisker plot of a data set.
    How to recognize misleading graphs.
On this day, the math department will be attending a professional-development training.  I will be out of the building.

Wednesday 9/24    ERD
This is a district-wide Early Release Day.  Students will not be in their regular classes, but will instead participate in team-building activities intended to strengthen the girls and boys academies.  Students will be released at 12:40 (two hours early).

Thursday 9/25        Experimental Probability
Objective:  Students will determine the experimental probability of an event.  Students will use experimental probability to make predictions.
Standard:  
Vocabulary:  experiment, trial, outcome, sample space, event, probability, experimental probability, prediction
Skills questions:
How do you identify the sample space and outcomes of an event?
    How do you estimate the likelihood of an event?
    How do you find the experimental probability of an event?
    How can you use these skills to solve a real-world problem?
