Don't let it drop!
Battle Creek Middle School is made up of a Girls Academy (Sisterhood) and a Boys Academy (Brotherhood).  Each academy consists of two teams, a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team.  Students are put into academies by gender in order to better meet their academic needs.  We know that girls and boys learn differently, so we teach them differently.  While students are separated for instruction, there are purposeful opportunities for the students to interact on a social, co-ed basis.  After one full year of all classes being single gender, the data shows a significant drop in the number of behavior referrals to the office, as well as a significant decrease in the number of suspensions/dismissals.
