"No one thought we would win a game, but we have already won four, with four remaining," says Coach Dewayne Combs. The team is lead offensively by the productive guard duo of 8th graders Caprice Hutchingson and Breanna Nussear. Down under the basket , the power and skills of two more 8th graders, Fia Hufinga and Atorrie Burrell, are pulling down the rebounds. Another element of the squad's success, Combs says, is the heads-up play of 8th grader Emily Golla. The future of next year's team looks good as well, with the unlooked-for emergence of 7th graders Ebony Sinkfield, Shakeela Wells and Kalisa Sales, who have earned valuable minutes during critical moments in the games . But for now, Combs and the Panthers are looking to the near future. "This team just continues to grow, and we expect big things in the play-offs," he says. The B squad continues to gain experience also, by winning its last game versus Ramsey, and led by the strong play of Shanice Kong and Regina Swanson. Amy Xiong and Isatu Jolla, have also played well, continuing the B team's development.
