No Child Left Behind (NCLB)
On January 8th, 2002 President Bush signed into Law the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. This new authorization of federal education policy is a shift in focus away from schools and toward students and families. The goal of NCLB is to have every student achieve proficiency in reading, math, and science by the year 2014. The state of MN will hold schools accountable for teaching all students. This new system will assist schools in developing strategies that will close the district-identified gaps in achievement.
